Shot for People Magazine, more of the story here, but this is from the back up. The larger the situation or shoot, the more I try to back myself up, no matter how simple. I set myself up to make it so I never come back with nothing, even if all gear goes down, never leave with nothing at all costs. Now I have never had this happen, but the joy in my little system is that months later when I finally sit down and look at the film or scan it, that joy of seeing the magic that was film is back, if only for a moment.
After the first shot was wrapped and before the wardrobe change for the second, I shot 10 frames as fast as I could on one roll. This was frame #1.

Stories Travel.
i like how small the internet makes the world. my stories #1 and #2 are now in australia. months ago i got an email from robert, who somehow or another found my site and kept reading, even sent a nice note a few times.
then when i did stories, he asked for one. the printer cannot ship out of the USA directly yet, so robert asked if i would send him one each and we worked it out on our own. i waited till #2 was ready and shipped them.
it took them about a month to arrive. i had asked him to take a snap of the envelope when they arrived as i am still oddly fascinated by mail and the way it looks upon arrival, more so internationally. today this photo arrived of robert holding my envelope, courtesy of his wife…

Atlantic Flyway Tournament.
sometime saturday i decided to try and make it to hopkins in kennedyville, MD on sunday for a one day competition in preparation for nationals. i needed the practice and had never been to hopkins, a staple of sporting clays, it would now be my 27th club. i reserved one of the last cars in nyc and tried to go to bed early. 2 movies later, countless games of solitaire and a few hours looking at your internet, i walked to get the car. another 3h drive and competition on no sleep, none.
awake 30h now, i arrive, warm up, eat, hit the course. i only had one bad station, missed 4 of 6, all me getting in my own way, same for every target missed today, all breaks in focus. the ones that made me nervous, i broke them all, it’s the ones i took for granted i missed.
82 of 100. a good day as score cards look best all X’s. 2nd of 13 in B Class. $ won and my first ‘punch’ or ‘point’ towards moving into A class, only 5 punches more to go. oh yeah, i also got my first plaque, jealous?
the woman handing it to me didn’t want to be photographed, but i made do.

I Am Officially Sponsored for Nationals.
in 2007 nationals was a vison quest (yes, said with a wink) but i had a true chance, at least for the goal of top ten in my class. in one of the two events i was after, i was 11th. in 2007 i shot in 29 competitions leading up to nationals and took 14h of lessons, this year: 9 competitions and 2h of lessons.
i accomplished my goal of the year (moving up one class) back in april. then i pretty much quit. now without practice or the proper mental training, it could be another seminole cup or states catastrophe. yet the wheels are now turning. in 17 days, 13 hours, 20 min and 24 seconds, the first day of the four day competition begins.
